Lake Pend Oreille (pronounced: pond-o-ray) Sandpoint centers around this gorgeous lake. 43 miles long, and 1,150 feet deep in some regions, making it the fifth deepest in the United States. The lake centers at “City Beach” downtown Sandpoint's free casual hot spot. You can barbeque, play horseshoes, volleyball, tennis, launch your boat, and relax without worrying about having a beach badge! The US Navy tests submarines for acoustics out at the deep south end of the lake in Bayview , this area is also home to Farragut State Park. Rentals are available in Sandpoint for jet skis, pontoon boats, whatever you need to get on the water!
Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort has activities and events year-round. Ski the 2900 acres of lift-serviced terrain, with a vertical drop of 2,400 feet and top elevation of 6,400 feet. Ski Magazine voted Schweitzer "The Best Kept Secret in North America". During the summer mountain bike down, climb a rock wall, take a zip line by yourself or with a friend, or just pick huckleberries with the best view anywhere!
Silverwood Theme Park has over 65 rides, slides, shows and attractions, including four roller coasters, Boulder Beach Water Park, a steam engine train, live entertainment, restaurants, and more. New rides and water features added every year! Come in October for Scareywood!
The Panida theater opened as a vaudeville and movie house in 1927. It's Sandpoint's community owned cultural center for cinema, theatre, and music. Then, as now, its name reflected its mission: to showcase great performers and performances for audiences of the PANhandle of IDAho.
Downtown Sandpoint has small town charm with fabulous unique shops and gifts. Home to three major corporations; LiteHouse Dressings, Quest Aviation, and Thorne Research; Litehouse has a retail stores worth visiting. ALL the great boutiques and eateries in this quaint Inland Northwest town are worth the trip!
Sandpoint is surrounded by National Forests, and known for its elk, deer, moose, bear, and mountain lions. Also home to some of the best Lake Trout fishing around. WITHIN DRIVING DISTANCE
Exploring the neighboring towns is one of the jewels of Sandpoint. Breathtaking scenery is all around you:
- Drive the Bonners Ferry - Moyie Springs - Libby - Clark Fork Loop and visit Bonners Ferry National Wildlife Refuge, Kootenai Falls and the swinging bridge, and Ross Creek Cedars.
- Priest Lake view Roosevelt Cedar Grove, Granite Falls, or upper Priest Falls, or picnic at the many State Parks.
- Sagle drive to the beach at Green Bay and tour The Bird Aviation & Invention Museum (free).
- Coeur D'Alene is a much larger town (city) about an hour south of Sandpoint, with great downtown shopping and eateries. We do have a "sister" FairBridge Inn in Coeur D'Alene, ID. (However, NOT Pacific Northwest themed furniture at that hotel.)
